Working Across Generations for the Great Commission

One of the most encouraging signs of the Great Commission movement is seeing local churches deepen their commitment to both their own communities and the nations.

Earlier this month, members of Renew Church gathered at a retreat held at Pepperdine University to explore a timely theme: how believers of every generation can work together for God’s Kingdom.

The church, an Asian-rooted but multi-ethnic and multi-generational church plant in the Los Angeles area, spent the weekend considering how different generations can learn from one another, serve alongside one another, and participate together in God’s mission in the world.

Lisa Pak of the Finishing the Task team served as the retreat speaker, encouraging participants to see the Great Commission as a calling that belongs to the whole Church—not just one generation or one group of leaders.

The connection began months earlier at Urbana, where Lisa met Founding and Senior Pastor Wilson Wang along with several leaders and young adults from Renew Church. Those conversations eventually led to an invitation for Lisa to speak at the church’s June retreat.

Held outdoors, the retreat created space for worship, teaching, fellowship, and conversations about the future of the church’s ministry.

One theme emerged repeatedly: a growing desire to become more intentional in both local outreach and global missions.

That desire reflects the heart of the Finishing the Task movement. As churches grow healthier and more unified internally, they are better equipped to partner with others, reach their communities, and help ensure that every person and every people has access to the gospel. Churches like Renew Church are pursuing healthy leadership, strengthening relationships across generations, and asking how God might use them more effectively in his global mission.

Please join us in praying for Pastor Wilson Wang, the leaders of Renew Church, and the entire congregation as they continue to grow as a church committed to making disciples locally and globally.
