Update from Italy: Catholic Believers Rally to Finish the Task

Earlier this month in Rome, leaders from across the globe gathered for the Global2033 Summit, a bold, Spirit-led initiative uniting Catholic believers to fulfill the Great Commission by the 2000th anniversary of the Church in the year 2033. Representing Finishing the Task, Pastor Rick Warren and team joined the gathering of committed Catholic leaders who are mobilizing with unprecedented unity and passion.

Pastor Rick described it as “the largest gathering in history of evangelical Catholics… committed to re-evangelizing and renewing the Catholics in the Christian church.” His message highlighted the sheer size and potential of the global Church, including 1.3 billion Catholics—“a sleeping giant” ready to be awakened and activated for the mission of Jesus. He shared about the importance of unity across the Body of Christ as we all look towards finishing the task of the Great Commission:

“The purpose of unity is not just to feel good… The purpose of unity is for evangelization. ‘May they be one so that the world will know. May they be one so that the world may believe.’ The purpose of us all working together—different brands of Christians—is to be a united witness to the world.”

Global2033, led by Henry and Sabina Cappello, has set an audacious goal: to equip and send out 133 million Catholic missionary disciples by 2033. They share:

“Global 2033 is primarily a consortium of organizations and movements, dioceses and entities in the Catholic Church with one objective: to bring the Gospel to all mankind. To fulfil the Great Commission. 2000 years after Jesus said to us to go and make disciples, in our nations, only 1/3 of the population of 8 billion people have heard about Jesus and have accepted Jesus in their lives as their Lord and Saviour.”

Through tools like the “Commissioned” video series, upcoming leadership training programs, and the Women of Influence Summit, this movement is mobilizing believers of all ages and backgrounds to say yes to Jesus’ final command.

The Finishing the Task coalition celebrates the work Global 2033 is doing to mobilize the Catholic church to share Jesus with the world. The mission to reach everyone, everywhere, by 2033 is a global call – the urgency to reach the lost is growing every day. We’re so excited to see more of the Church waking up, standing together, and pressing forward to finish the task!To sign up to become a Great Commission Ally, visit https://finishingthetask.com/signup/
