Pastor Rick to the Great Commission Allies: Let's Pray for Each Other!
Pastor Rick Warren, head of the Finishing the Task, shares this encouragement with every believer working to help complete the Great Commission by 2033:
Because the vision of Finishing the Task – fulfilling the Great Commission – is a threat to Satan, you are a target for his arrows. We are in a spiritual battle for the souls of people Christ died for. This is not a Sunday afternoon picnic. If Satan cannot defeat you with temptations, he will try to distract you with trials.
The book of James reminds us:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4 NIV).
1 Peter 4:12 echoes, “Don’t be surprised when you encounter fiery trials…” We can take heart because “What Satan intends to harm us, God intends for our good.. for the saving of many lives” (See Genesis 50:20). Struggles are how God strengthens us.
If the source of my suffering is SIN – then I need to repent.
If the source of my suffering is SATAN – then I need to resist!
But in all cases, I need to relax in God’s grace, knowing that everything that comes into my life is FATHER-FILTERED. Even Satan can’t touch you without God’s permission (See the book of Job). So disappointments are His appointments.
Nothing is more empowering and liberating than trusting God’s Sovereignty! Every problem that is over my head is under Christ’s feet! That includes every crisis, conflict, problem, pressure, and illness.
So let’s PRAY! Jesus said in Luke 18:1, “ You should always pray and NOT give up!” In life, we are always doing one or the other: praying OR giving up. If you’re praying, you won’t give up. If you’re giving up, that means you’re not praying!
