Love in Action: A Ugandan Pastor's Bold Vision for His Community
In a rural community in Uganda, Pastor David Muchungu is living out the Great Commission with contagious faith, compassion, and vision. Last year, he received Finishing the Task’s Healthy Church training from an unexpected source—Johnnie Mae Clemensen, a Saddleback Church member in Southern California who has been mentoring him virtually for over a year. Equipped and inspired by what he learned, Pastor David stepped out in faith to plant a new church in August… and it’s already bearing incredible fruit.
Every Sunday, new believers are coming to faith in Christ. “Every day we are winning souls,” he shared. “People are confessing with their mouth that Jesus is their personal Savior.”
But for Pastor David, evangelism isn’t confined to the pulpit. His ministry is a beautiful blend of preaching and practical love. From caring for widows and orphans to providing food, clothing, and emotional support to those in need, Pastor David and his team are building bridges of hope in their community.
When asked what drives him, Pastor David described his call as a holy burden: “It was a calling from the Lord… We said, now let’s expand the ministry to save many, many souls.”
He’s already multiplying the vision. With several churches joining him, Pastor David is partnering with fellow pastors for joint crusades, conferences, and training. His dream for the future includes launching a Bible school to equip leaders, providing vocational training in areas such as sewing and salon work, and expanding a school for young children so the next generation can encounter the love of Jesus early on.
“We can’t wait for tomorrow’s generation—we start from today,” he said.
Pastor David is a powerful example of what can happen when a local leader catches a global vision. As he trains others, shares the gospel, and lifts up his neighbors, he is helping to finish the task in Uganda—one soul, one act of love at a time.
