Healthy Churches, Mobilized Believers:
How Pastor Juan is Running with the FTT Vision
Earlier this year, we introduced you to Pastor Juan Vasquez—lead pastor of Unleashed Christian Church in South Tucson, Arizona—whose ministry passion is clear: help pastors and churches become healthy so they can more effectively fulfill the Great Commission.
As Pastor Juan says, “It’s God’s job to grow the church; it’s our job to be healthy.” That means creating systems, building leaders, and mobilizing every member of the congregation to live on mission in their own communities.
This approach isn’t just about church growth—it’s about multiplication. Healthy pastors lead healthy churches, and healthy churches send their people out into their neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and even other nations to share the Good News. In Pastor Juan’s ministry, this has meant equipping other pastors and churches locally and globally to do more than just gather on Sundays.
Recent Highlights in Mobilizing Healthy Churches
Arizona Connections
Earlier this year, Pastor Juan met with several Arizona pastors to share the vision of Healthy Church and Finishing the Task. After initial vision-casting meetings, he walked alongside these leaders to implement systems and processes that help members grow in discipleship, serve in ministry, and engage in evangelism. Many of these leaders are now eager to join Pastor Juan on future FTT trips, carrying the vision beyond their local context.
Mexico Outreach – Nayarit & Jalisco
In January, Pastor Juan traveled to the Nayarit and Jalisco regions of Mexico, meeting with pastors and church leaders. These conversations laid the groundwork for future ministry partnerships focused on creating healthy, multiplying churches. The vision is to equip leaders with practical tools so their congregations can make disciples year-round, not just during special events.
Peru Mission – Cusco
This summer, a team of 14 from Unleashed Christian Church journeyed to Cusco, Peru, to partner with local churches in remote areas. The trip was powerful—local pastors and congregations were equipped to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their communities year-round.
Mexico Mission – Nogales
In late July, Pastor Juan’s church sent 20 people to serve alongside churches in Nogales, Mexico, helping them apply Healthy Church and FTT principles within their congregations and neighborhoods.

Continuing Efforts for Greater Impact
Nogales, Mexico
Pastor Juan will return to Nogales this month to speak at a gathering of pastors and church leaders, where they are anticipating several hundred attendees. This gathering will focus on equipping leaders to mobilize their congregations to live out the Great Commission in practical ways.
Return to Nayarit & Jalisco
Pastors from Pastor Juan’s January trip have invited him back to speak directly to their congregations about what God is doing and how they can take part. This visit will be an opportunity to help entire churches step into the FTT vision.
A Model for Other Pastors
Pastor Juan’s ministry offers an example for how pastors anywhere can embrace and run with the FTT vision:
-
- Prioritize Health – A healthy pastor leads a healthy church. That means avoiding burnout, sharing leadership, and creating sustainable systems for ministry.
-
- Build Leaders – Train members to serve and lead, so the work of the church doesn’t rest on one person’s shoulders.
-
- Mobilize Everyone – Equip every believer to see themselves as a missionary in their daily context.
-
- Partner Beyond Your Church – Collaborate with other churches locally and globally to strengthen the Body of Christ.
When pastors invest in health and mobilization, the result is multiplication—more people reached, more disciples made, and more churches working together to finish the task.
If you’re a pastor or church leader, Pastor Juan’s story is an encouragement: you don’t need to know everything before you start.
