God’s Word Is Reaching More People Than Ever Before—And the Pace Is Accelerating

For most of history, access to God’s Word was something many believers could only dream about.

Entire generations lived and died without ever hearing Scripture in their own language. Bible translation often took decades, and in many places, there simply weren’t enough people or resources to begin the work.

Today, that story is changing.

Across the globe, we are witnessing one of the most remarkable seasons of progress in the history of Bible translation. Churches, translators, technology innovators, and ministry organizations are working together in unprecedented ways to help every person experience God’s Word in a language and format they can clearly understand.

 

The results are encouraging.

• Today, Bible translation work is underway in more than 4,400 languages around the world. 

• New translation projects are beginning at an average of one every day, while complete Bibles and New Testaments are being published at a rate of nearly one every three days. 

• Even more remarkable, the number of language communities still waiting for Bible translation to begin has dropped from more than 5,000 when the Vision 2025 movement launched in 1999 to just over 500 today. 

 

These statistics are compiled through the ProgressBible initiative, a collaborative effort that brings together data from organizations including Wycliffe Global Alliance, SIL International, United Bible Societies, and many other Bible translation partners working toward a shared vision of making Scripture accessible to every people and language.

So, what has changed?

 

One of the biggest reasons for translation acceleration is collaboration.

Rather than relying primarily on outside missionaries, local churches and believers are increasingly leading translation efforts in their own language communities. Organizations that once worked independently are sharing expertise, technology, and resources through collaborative initiatives like IllumiNations and many other partnerships across the global Bible translation movement.

Technology has also transformed what is possible. New digital tools are helping translators work more efficiently, while AI-assisted tools are beginning to accelerate portions of the translation process under the careful oversight of experienced translators. At the same time, God’s Word is reaching people in more ways than ever before, not only through printed Bibles, but through audio Scripture, mobile apps, and sign language translations. Ministries such as Deaf Missions are helping make Scripture more accessible for Deaf communities around the world, while digital platforms are putting the Bible into the hands of millions of people with just a few taps on a screen.

This is all a powerful reminder of what God can do when the global Church works together.

 

Yet the work is not finished.

Millions of people are still waiting to encounter Scripture in the language they understand best. Some language communities are just beginning the translation journey, while others are waiting for the New Testament or the full Bible to be completed. Reaching every people with God’s Word will continue to require prayer, partnership, generosity, and faithful perseverance.
