Australia Update:
A National Roundtable Model for Finishing the Task
One of the most exciting developments in our global efforts to finish the task by 2033 is the emergence of local, regional, and national models where churches are uniting across denominations to ask a bold question:
What would it take to reach everyone in our area with the Gospel?
During a recent trip to Australia, Pastor Rick Warren was invited to speak at a national gathering of Christian leaders from across the country. Hosted by Finishing the Task, the Baptist World Alliance, GO Movement, and Canberra Declaration, this event brought together 56 Christian leaders representing around 80% of churchgoing Australians—from Catholic to Orthodox, Pentecostal to Lutheran, Baptist to Uniting Church, and more. Using his visit as a catalyst, local leaders convened what became the first Australian Evangelism Roundtable.
The Australian leaders came together focused on a singular question: How can we, together, evangelize every person in Australia?
As one keynote statement put it, this was not “just another Christian conference,” but perhaps “the Kairos moment the Church in Australia has been waiting for”—a time marked by divine alignment and decisive unity. The result was historic.
After Pastor Rick spoke and left, the leaders stayed. They talked, prayed, and made the decision to formally unite as Australia’s first national Finishing the Task (FTT) Roundtable—committed to developing a strategy to ensure every person in Australia hears the Good News of Jesus.
This marks a new milestone in the FTT journey. What began as a shared vision has now taken root in city models (like Tijuana, Mexico), and is spreading through national models like Australia and Brazil, and even continental models such as the growing North America Roundtable.
Why it matters:
- These Roundtables are decentralized, locally-led expressions of the global vision to fulfill the Great Commission.
- They serve as models for replication—inspiring other regions, cities, and nations to ask, “If they can do it, why not us?”
- Each Roundtable reflects a core FTT value: that collaboration is greater than competition, and unity in Christ transcends tradition or denomination.
We believe God is raising up leaders in every corner of the world to pioneer new ways to share the Gospel—through local churches, networks, and movements. These Roundtables aren’t about one person or one organization. They are expressions of the whole Church rising up to reach the whole world.
As we move closer to 2033, these models will be critical for sustaining momentum and building lasting Great Commission culture in every context.
Let’s keep celebrating what God is doing—and praying for more pastors, leaders, and churches to come together in the same spirit of humility, urgency, and unity.
