A Historic Step Forward: First FTT Training of Trainers in Baja, California
April 29th marked a historic milestone in the Finishing the Task (FTT) vision in Latin America as over 60 pastors and leaders from Baja California, Mexico, gathered at Saddleback Church’s Rancho Capistrano campus for the very first Training of Trainers (ToT) session.
Taught by Pastor Tommy Hiliker, this gathering was far more than just another leadership event—it was the launchpad for a catalytic movement across the Hispanic world.
FTT’s Latin America leader Hector Tamez, a veteran minister with 43 years of experience, described the event as unprecedented. “We saw the Spirit of God move in this place,” he shared. “These pastors were not only trained—they were ignited. They left with a fire to multiply the message and mobilize others. I’ve been in ministry for 43 years, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this. This is the beginning of something big in Baja.”
Tommy Hilliker, President of Rockbridge International Seminary, taught the training session. He provided context about the region’s spiritual landscape: “In Tijuana alone, there are 5 million people and only 3,000 congregations – the need is urgent. These pastors said yes to being Great Commission allies and are going back ready to train others in their churches, neighborhoods, and beyond.”
The training focused on Jesus’ ministry model, emphasizing preaching, teaching, healing, empowering, church-building, and prayer. Pastors enthusiastically signed up to become Great Commission allies, committed to extensive training and outreach.
The Finishing the Task vision is to see every believer become a witness and every person reached with the Gospel. This training of trainers event is a powerful step forward in that vision, especially in Latin America, where God is moving in unprecedented ways.
Pray with us that God will continue to move and turn the hearts of leaders across the Hispanic world to be ignited to join the movement of finishing the task in our generation. Pray for the pastors and leaders in Baja as they step out in obedience and faith. And we challenge you to pray and consider your own role in this global movement. The Great Commission is not a distant dream, it’s a mission we can finish together, in our generation!
