The Baptist World Alliance Launches the Acts 2 Movement:
A Shared Commitment to Finish the Task
The 23rd Baptist World Congress in Brisbane, Australia marked a significant moment as the Baptist denomination officially joined the global movement to fulfill the Great Commission by 2033.
With over 3,000 delegates from 130 countries gathered in worship, prayer, and strategic planning during their annual congress, the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) launched the Acts 2 Movement—their denomination-wide commitment to proclaiming the Gospel to every person on earth within the next decade.
A Denominational Expression of the FTT Global Vision
Simliar to the Catholic Church’s increasing engagement with the FTT goals expressed as Global2033, the Baptists now have their own unique Baptist expression of the 2033 vision, contextualized to fit their tradition, theology, and global reach.
“Two thousand years ago, the disciples gathered in an upper room, and for the first time, the Holy Spirit permanently filled men and women. As a church in action, they changed the world,” said Brown. “What if, for the glory of God, we prayed, ‘Lord, what you did 2,000 years ago, would you do it again?’ A global revival in every language, in every neighborhood, in every nation.”
— Dr. Elijah Brown, General Secretary & CEO, Baptist World Alliance
The Acts 2 Movement draws directly from the spirit and structure of the early church in Acts 2—rooted in prayer, evangelism, service, community, and bold witness. It’s built around five global paths, all aimed at engaging 47 million Baptists in 130 countries to reach their networks and beyond:
-
- Bible Path – 1,159 Bible translations and prayer groups in under-Bibled languages
-
- Witness Path – 450 million personal testimonies shared by 2033 (one per Baptist per year)
-
- Care Path – 1 billion intentional acts of service globally
-
- Neighbor Path – 500,000 trained lay chaplains offering local care and prayer
-
- Religious Freedom Path – 1 million signatures for a global Covenant on Religious Freedom
Each of these reflects a core FTT principle: mobilize the whole Church to take responsibility for the whole world.
Baptists Are All In
During the opening session of the Baptist World Congress in Brisbane, Dr. Elijah Brown, General Secretary of the Baptist World Alliance, issued a powerful call to the global Baptist family: “The church at her birth was the church at her best.”
With that declaration, he invited believers to return to the bold, Spirit-filled mission of the early church. Brown urged the worldwide Baptist community to pray for “global revival in every language, neighborhood, and nation”—all in anticipation of the year 2033, the 2,000th anniversary of Christ’s death, resurrection, ascension, and the birth of the church at Pentecost.
He challenged every Baptist network, church, and believer to embrace a Spirit-led, collaborative mission, modeled after Acts 2 and aligned with the call to finish the task.
The response was immediate. Hundreds of delegates flooded the front of the auditorium in prayer, committing themselves to join the Acts 2 Movement. It was a visible reminder that God is stirring a unified resolve among Baptists to help complete the Great Commission—together.
This moment matters—not just for Baptists, but for all of us working to finish the task.
“The global Christian community is uniting around the 2033 vision to help complete the Great Commission. Through the Acts 2 Movement, Baptists are stepping forward to fulfill our sacred responsibility in this divine mission,” said Kyle Henderson, BWA Acts 2 Movement Director and liaison to the Finishing the Task team.

One Mission, Many Expressions
Finishing the Task is not a brand or a program—it’s a rallying point for the global Church to work together with urgency and humility toward one shared goal: getting the Gospel to every person by 2033.
As more denominations join in—Catholics, Pentecostals, Baptists, and others—we’re witnessing something extraordinary: a united Church, rising up in diverse but aligned ways to complete Jesus’ final command.
We celebrate the Acts 2 Movement as a powerful expression of that unity. And we look forward to collaborating with BWA and other partners to multiply prayer, evangelism, and disciple-making efforts around the world.
