Job Title: Director of Finance (CFO)

Job Description:

The Director of Finance (CFO) is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the organization with the highest level of integrity and transparency to donors. This position reports directly to the CEO/Executive Director and is responsible for managing the organization’s financial resources, developing and implementing financial strategies, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management: Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s financial strategies, policies, and procedures, ensuring that they align with the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives. Manage the organization’s budget, cash flow, and financial reporting.
2. Financial Reporting: Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses to the CEO and Board of Directors. Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP, IRS, and state and local laws.
3. Fundraising and Grant Management: Work with the CEO/Executive Director and development team to develop and manage fundraising and grant strategies, ensuring that all financial reporting and compliance requirements are met.
4. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks, including those related to investments, cash flow, and donor relationships. Develop and implement appropriate risk management policies and procedures.
5. Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, ensuring that they have the necessary resources, skills, and support to meet their goals and objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

6. Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field required. CPA or MBA preferred.
7. Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Experience in managing a team and leading financial reporting and compliance activities.
8. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices, including budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting. Familiarity with GAAP, IRS, and other regulatory requirements. Knowledge of fundraising and grant management preferred.
9. Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with donors, board members, staff, and external partners. Strong leadership and team management skills.
10. Personal Attributes: Demonstrated commitment to the organization’s mission and values. High level of integrity, ethics, and transparency. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
